About
Technology that works in the real world, not just the demo.
Mended Matter is a small, senior consultancy. You work directly with the person doing the work, no account managers, no handoffs, no jargon for its own sake.
The philosophy
Fix what is broken. Make it worth more.
The name comes from kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold so the mended object is more valuable than it was before the break. It is a good description of the work: most businesses do not need to be torn down and rebuilt, they need their broken processes mended properly, with care, so the result is stronger and more valuable than the original.
In practice that means I am allergic to technology for its own sake. Every automation, every tool, every line of AI has to earn its place by giving you back time, money or sanity. If a problem is better solved by deleting a step than by building software, I will tell you.
Who you work with
Oscar Whitmarsh, Principal
My background is leading technology modernisation and AI adoption across a multi-division business: restructuring service delivery to be predictable, running the vendor and platform selection, and getting AI and automation actually used rather than just talked about. Mended Matter brings that same executive lens to growing organisations directly.
I come from operations and IT leadership, not just code, identity and endpoints, the Microsoft 365 stack, service desk and process design, and the vendor decisions behind them. What is new is that AI now lets me execute the strategy I set, not just recommend it: strategy and the working result, from one person.
Based in Toronto, Ontario; available across the province and remotely, as fractional advisory, fixed-scope projects, or ongoing retainers.
How I work
Senior, direct, and built to hand back.
I ship in small, working increments so you see value early and can change direction cheaply. I document what I build and train your team to own it, the goal is to make myself unnecessary, not indispensable. And I am straight with you about trade-offs, timelines and what is genuinely worth doing.
